Our Approach
Achieving our goals starts with understanding the challenges and aspirations of Hispanic Forest Landowners. We use these insights to build an educational network of experts, bilingual resources, and technical support, while strengthening USDA’s capacity by placing young Hispanic agricultural professionals in internships nationwide. Through these efforts, we aim to create lasting, meaningful impact for Hispanic forest landowners across the mainland U.S. and Puerto Rico.

Data that Informs Outreach
We pride ourselves on delivering the latest research on Hispanic and Latino farmers in the Southeast U.S. and Caribbean. Our reports offer comprehensive analyses of demographic and farming characteristics, with comparisons to national and state averages to guide the Hispanic Forest Landowners Outreach Program in connecting socially disadvantaged farmers with USDA resources. Key data includes farm size, commodities, producer age and gender, and additional U.S. Census data on race, ethnicity, income, education, poverty, and disability status.
To learn more about our research, read our Enumeration Study of Hispanic Forest Landowners in the U.S. The results of this study have guided our targeted outreach efforts across the U.S., including Puerto Rico.

Strengthening Capacity to Serve Hispanic Forest Landowners
This program equips agencies and partners with tools to better serve Hispanic landowners and aims to increase bilingual Technical Service Providers. Asekia’s bilingual Talent Development program also supports this goal by placing young Hispanic professionals in USDA internships, fostering future forestry leadership.

Bilingual Hispanic Forest Landowner Hub
The Hub is a collaborative platform providing bilingual resources, technical assistance, and land management education. It empowers landowners with the knowledge to make informed conservation decisions and connects them with experts in conservation, legal issues, and relevant news and opportunities.

Survey of Hispanic Forest Landowners in the U.S. and Puerto Rico
In 2021, mYo completed the first national study on Hispanic Forest Landowners (HFLs), addressing a major knowledge gap in understanding HFL ownership. This survey marks the initial step toward building foundational insights into HFL characteristics, goals, and challenges. The findings will help promote HFL presence and guide the development of the Hispanic Forest Landowner Outreach Hub.
